Born and raised in southern California, Cathy Painter met her husband while he was in the U.S. Air Force serving temporary duty in Ms. Painter’s home state. “We married in 1986, and I moved to the Fort Walton Beach area,” she says. After a short stint in Germany, the couple lived in Ashland, Kentucky and returned to the Emerald Coast after retiring from the military.
Ms. Painter originally worked at the Fort Walton Beach stained glass studio The Glass, where she had access to “some of the most beautiful glass.” In 1987, she opened her own studio, A Touch of Glass, and specialized in custom designed windows, lamps and kaleidoscopes.
Five years later, Kaleidoscopes-N-More opened in Destin. “I continue to replicate and design all styles of stained glass,” Ms. Painter says. “Kaleidoscopes are my favorite. Each is one-of-a-kind, made with a wide assortment of precious stones, crystals, hand blown marbles, glassware, and just about any unique item I can find.”
