Award-Winning Artist Announces New Series of Classes Throughout Beachcomberland

Published on

Award-winning Santa Rosa Beach artist Kathleen Broaderick announces details for her 2018 series—intimate, boutique art instruction sessions including single session studio acrylic art classes and two intensive three-day oil painting workshops.

With names like “Deer Lake Flamingo” and “Blue Mountain Bonita,” this new series of classes celebrates the natural beauty of coastal life in South Walton infused with Broaderick’s signature bold, colorful whimsy.

“I am excited that this new series will both welcome everyone to my beautiful new studio gallery and allow me to venture out to share my techniques with fellow art lovers throughout the region,” Ms. Broaderick says. “I love helping people who also find joy in art express themselves creatively.”

Most sessions will be held at Ms. Broaderick’s space, CHROMA Studio & Gallery, located at 3925 W. Scenic Highway 30A in Santa Rosa Beach, but three will be held in Niceville and Rosemary Beach, with a workshop held in a partnership with Center for the Arts in Bonita Springs, Florida.

The single-session classes are two-and-a-half hours long. All supplies are provided, including gallery wrapped canvases, high-quality professional acrylic paints, brushes and step-by-step instructions, plus all the encouragement needed to make a masterpiece.

Wine and snacks are welcome, but experience is not required. The cost for each single session class is $75 per person. Register online at CHROMA30A.com, unless noted otherwise.

As a former elementary art teacher, Emerald Coast native Kathleen Broaderick is perfectly suited to lead classes for art lovers of all skill levels. Her artistic journey began serendipitously during her last semester at Florida State University, when she filled an open slot in her schedule with a watercolor class. After raising two children and teaching elementary school, she turned her longtime passion into a career.

Her love of watercolor is evident in the transparent, luminosity of her energetic, layered oil paintings. Ms. Broaderick deftly captures the essence of her subjects with bold use of clean color and light created with loose brushstrokes resulting in fresh, relatable pieces.

As the 2016 Poster Art Contest winner, Ms. Broaderick’s artwork prominently represented the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation’s Festival of the Arts in Destin. The same year, she also won an Award of Merit in the 21st annual juried art competition. In June 2017, she designed and opened CHROMA Studio & Gallery on 30A. That August, she was named an Exclusive Artist for Ballard Designs, one of the nation’s premier sources for home furnishings. In October, she was named South Walton Artist of the Year for 2017.
