Harbor Docks Charities hosts the 23rd Annual Take-A-Kid-Fishing Day Sunday, Nov. 5. For the last 20 years, many area children have spent a glorious day fishing aboard 57 of Destin’s finest charter boats.
There are 300 openings for kids that do not often get the chance to fish in the beautiful waters around Destin, including the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay. Off-duty policemen and firemen from Destin and Fort Walton Beach, as well as other Harbor Docks Charities volunteers, will serve as chaperones on these professional charter boats.
Reservations (for children ages 7 to 13) for this free fishing trip will be accepted until the slots are filled. To make a reservation or get additional information, call Jackie or Becky at 850-837-2506, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Preregistration is required.
Reservations will be taken beginning Monday, Oct. 2. Call or fax in your reservation, include each child’s name and age, along with their parent’s name and phone number. For group reservations, Harbor Docks Charities can fax parent release forms upon request, which will need to be completed by the parent of each child participating.
There will be two boarding times, and times will be assigned when reservations are made. The first group of approximately 150 kids will be signed in at 7 a.m., and the second group will be signed in at 8 a.m..
Everyone will meet downstairs at Harbor Docks in Destin for a breakfast of orange juice and donuts. Boats board at 7:30 a.m. and return at noon. The second group of children will board at 8:30 a.m. and return at 1 p.m. All children will receive a t-shirt, rod and reel, along with a family fish fry. (Please remember the Daylight Savings time change.)
Teachers interested in volunteering or chaperoning are asked to call Jackie or Becky at 850-837-2506.
