April 9-15 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the changing roles of libraries, librarians and library workers. During this week, the Destin Library joins libraries in schools, college campuses, and cities nationwide to celebrate the many ways libraries are transforming communities daily through the services and invaluable expertise they offer.
The Destin Library hosts a special performance by Beachcomber Music Award winner Cheryl Jones April 11 (see Live Music section), with an Easter egg hunt the following morning (see Events section).
“The library embraces the entire community, offering unlimited opportunities for personal growth and lifelong learning,” says library director Jurate Burns. “Libraries level the playing field for people of any age who are seeking information and access to technologies that will improve their quality of life.”
The Destin Library offers one-on-one instruction on mobile devices and computers, along with a state-of-the-art media lab where patrons can record and edit commercials or school projects.
National Library week was first celebrated in 1958 and is sponsored by the American Library Association.
