Who knew we all knew so many Tom Petty songs?

The annual fundraiser concert at the REP Theatre is not just any concert—it is an outpouring of many of the top local musicians donating their talents to honor the music we all love. Past artists honored include Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Johnny Cash and the Rolling Stones. This time Petty received the royal 30A treatment.

Whether it was the Steenos digging through the crates to perform Mudcrutch songs or Mike Whitty making a Petty classic all his own, the annual event always packs the house.

This year, the event went off script, deviating from the Petty songbook for the late Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and a moving tribute to Kenny Oliverio that brought all of the evening’s performers together. The group closed out the night by performing the Kenny O original “Ain’t Gonna Worry.”

Hearing that song done with such tender care…I wouldn’t trade that moment for the world.
