Celeb Judges named for Third Eggs on the Beach Cooking Competition

Bay Breeze Patio has lined up a panel of celebrity judges for the Third Annual Eggs on the Beach Cooking Competition, to be held Sept. 24 at Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach. This year’s group of culinary experts includes Lucy Buffett, owner of LuLu’s in Destin and Gulf Shores, Alabama; Chef Tim Creehan, owner of the Cuvee restaurants; Susan Benton, editor of; and Pat Embree, KCBS Certified BBQ Judge.


Each cook team will showcase their delicious creations prepared on the Big Green Egg smoker/grill, and the team of honorary judges will score the results in a variety of categories. In addition, the public is invited to taste all the delicious samples and vote for their favorites in the People’s Choice category.


“Last year, we added a panel of expert judges, and our cook teams enjoyed having culinary experts judging their creations,” says Wayne Paul, co-owner of Bay Breeze Patio. “This year, we’re excited to partner with local experts with diverse backgrounds to judge the cook teams’ culinary presentations.”


Creehan will be among this year’s honorary judges. As the owner of Cuvee Destin, Cuvee 30A and Destin Ice House 30A, Chef Creehan is an author, teacher, inventor and community steward. He was recognized as Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association’s 2015 Restaurateur of the Year and was recently featured on Emeril’s Florida on the Cooking Channel. Creehan partnered with Big Green Egg and has since added Big Green Egg grill/smokers at his restaurants. He is now developing a series of new menu items, to be unveiled this fall.


Buffett, known as LuLu and the official “Crazy Sista” of her family, is the little sister of musician Jimmy. Lucy has many talents. One of her most notable gifts is her love of cooking. Buffett has LuLu’s locations, three cookbooks and a diverse line of LuLu’s and Crazy Sista products to her credit.


Benton is the editor of and owner of is a food and travel webzine dedicated to sharing Southern Coastal family recipes, while promoting all the Gulf Coast community has to offer. Embree brings the “official” BBQ credentials. She is a KCBS Certified Barbecue Judge and a Florida BBQ Association certified judge. Embree has judged more than 25 cooking competitions around the country and has been selected as one of the judges for the World Food Championships being held in Orange Beach, Alabama this November.


The Eggs on the Beach Cooking Competition will feature more than 30 cook teams, live music by Beachcomber Music Award winner Chris Alvarado, cash bar (beer, wine, sodas), People’s Choice awards, chances for prizes, a Kids Zone, Sports Zone and more. All proceeds from Eggs on the Beach benefit Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and Food For Thought, Inc.
