Destin Woman’s Club

Published on

The Destin Woman’s Club was established in 1976 and aims to make a difference in the community.

Peggy Herbig has been a member of the club since 2001, holding various seats including president and vice-president. She currently serves as publicity chair. “We are a nonprofit organization,” she says, “and we spend a lot of time raising money for charities and organizations that we support.”

While the DWC has assisted a wide swath of area nonprofits, their yearly fundraising goals include “a long established Family Fund that was started by one of our members years and years ago. We find families that are under the radar that need additional help—whether they are ill or the children are ill or they are just really having a hard time.”

The DWC is also a strong supporter of the local chapter of Fisher House, an organization that provides housing for injured service members and their families as they focus on recovery and rehabilitation. “It is a project on Eglin Air Force base,” says Herbig. “It donates comfort and homes to families while they face medical crises together.”

Additionally, the Carol and Bob Winsett Memorial Scholarship Fund helps make college a more achievable goal for recipients, enabling single women to return to school.

On April 15, the DWC hosts Heart & Sole, a fundraiser that benefits the Fisher House and the club’s Family Fund. The event will be held at Marina Café in Destin and includes a fashion show, luncheon, and silent auction.

If being part of the Destin Woman’s Club speaks to you—making new friendships, socializing, and doing much good in our community—they welcome you to join one of their meetings or events.
